Botox® / Dysport® / Xeomin®/Jeuveau™

We all want to age gracefully, and fine lines and wrinkles can impede our
goals for a more youthful look. When we make any facial movements, whether we are smiling, frowning, squinting, or raising our eyebrows, the repeated muscle contractions cause our skin to furrow and fold. Over time, facial lines inevitably form. And as we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat and the skin loses elasticity, causing the skin to droop and forming deep wrinkles.

What can I do to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines?

Depending on the types of wrinkles and facial lines that you are looking to
correct, we offer a variety of treatment options to help. Schedule a consultation with us today to discuss which treatments will be most effective for you.

For Fine Lines and Superficial Wrinkles – Botulinum Toxin
Allergan Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau™

Botulinum toxin is injected into specific muscles, causing the temporary controlled relaxation of the targeted muscles. By relaxing those muscles, the skin is not subjected to repeated folding and furrowing, leaving the skin smooth.

Types of FDA-approved Botulinum Toxin
Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau™
Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin® and Jeuveau™ are types of botulinum toxin injection.

The differences between the various Botulinum Toxin products lie in the potency of trace proteins, which can make one more effective than the other.

What do they do?
Botulinum Toxins work by temporarily paralyzing the injection areas, relaxing the muscles that create facial wrinkles and preventing the formation of new lines. With Botulinum Toxin injections, you may notice a difference in your range of expressions and slight changes in how your face responds when you move. Botulinum Toxins are different from dermal fillers, and they do not fill existing wrinkles.

Frequently Asked Questions

With each injection, you may feel a slight prickling sensation from the needle. This is usually very quick and the sensation lasts only for a few seconds. Some clients mention feeling a bit squeamish during the treatment. At Metro Laser & Aesthetics, we utilize a special device called AccuVein while injecting to minimize bruising. A chiller and a vibration device are also used to minimize discomfort.

After the treatment, you may notice small welts on your skin at the injection sites. This is completely normal and will subside within an hour. You may experience a “heavy” sensation in the treatment areas or feelings of tightness. Mild bruising is common, and some experience headaches.

It’s a quick, 10-minute treatment with minimal downtime.

There is no downtime with the botulinum toxin treatment, and many clients are able to return to their daily routine immediately after the treatment.

Swelling and bruising may occur in the injected areas but will fade gradually within 2-3 days.  However, laser treatment is available to expedite the process.

Depending on the product, you may begin to notice results anywhere between 24-48 hours to 1 week after injections.

Depending on the product, results last up to 5 months.

Botulinum Toxin injections are not a permanent solution for wrinkles. Maintenance treatments every 4-6 months are recommended, and if you discontinue treatments, the lines will gradually return.

Botulinum toxins can be used to treat numerous other cosmetic concerns besides wrinkles. Other treatment areas of Botulinum toxins include:

  • Jawline (Square Jaw / Tensing of Jaw / TMJ)
  • Chin/Mental Smoothing
  • Gummy Smile (Upper & Lower)
  • Neck Web
  • Calf-Slimming
  • Neck Elongation
  • Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

Ask about these off-label treatments at your consultation.
